The 2016 edition of the Fitness-For-Service (FFS) standard API 579/ASME FFS-1 contains updates and modifications to the various rules used to evaluate damage mechanisms in pressure-containing equipment. The most significant changes are to Part 9 of the document, which governs the evaluation of crack-like flaws using a fracture mechanics approach. Updating the SagePlus software to meet the new standard has resulted in significant changes, including new capabilities of existing fracture mechanics tools. SagePlus fracture modules and their functions are described in this article.
