Realistically simulating the creep response of welded components can offer perspective on remaining life, help quantify the risk associated with operating in-service high-temperature equipment, and can validate new component designs. This article summarizes a finite element analysis (FEA)-based study that leverages creep simulation techniques to investigate the elevated temperature response of piping with peaked longitudinal weld seams. The objective of this study is to use analytical methods to estimate the remaining life of specific low-chrome piping geometries and to assess the sensitivity in results to variations in key parameters. Additionally, the effect of original heat treatment on damage progression is quantified, and a proposed innovative method for performing peaking measurements is summarized.
