Equity’s foundation is built upon code development and applied engineering services. From co-authoring API 579 to pioneering risk-based inspection (RBI) software, our milestones reflect a commitment to industry leadership and knowledge sharing.

Equity founders began working in BP’s central engineering group in Cleveland, OH.

1989
1991

Release of Sage, fitness-for-service (FFS) software — predecessor to SagePlus — with David Osage as lead developer and owner.

Equity founders provided central engineering and fitness-for-service services to refineries and chemical plants as a division of Hartford Steam Boiler.

1999
2000

API 579 1st edition developed with Equity founders as lead investigators; Equity founders obtain ownership of the Engineering Practices.

The Equity Engineering Group, Inc. is established with 13 industry experts in Ohio and Texas; API RBI risk targets concept created.

2002
2003

Lead investigator of ASME Boilers & Pressure Vessels (B&PV) Code Section VIII, Division 2.

Damage mechanism documents (WRC 488, 489, and 490) developed for API 579; API 571 developed from WRC 489; API RBI includes Level 2 consequence modeler.

2004
2005

Second Equity location opens in Clear Lake, TX; damage mechanism software released; API RBI pressure relief device module developed.

Lead investigator of two code releases – API 579-1/ASME FFS-1 and ASME B&PV Section VIII, Division 2; Equity secures API RBI software ownership from API.

2007
2008

Lead investigator of API 581 Risk-Based Inspection and API 579-2/ASME FFS-2.

PlantManager platform combines RBI and FFS technologies into a single platform.

2010
2012

Equity Engineering Practices launched; Equity becomes an employee-owned (ESOP) company.

Applied Research & Development team created; Equity’s North American market share grows to 33% of all active refineries.

2014
2015

Equity completes purchase of Tower East building, designed by architect Walter Gropius.

Lead investigator of API 597-1/ASME FFS-1 2nd edition and WRC 550 with new fatigue sections.

2016
2017

Launch of eecWebTools; lead investigator of WRC 562 with new brittle fracture rules.

Established Software as a Service (SaaS) division; acquired SIMFLEX-II software from Liang-Chuan Peng.

2018
2020

Acquired CorrSolutions for materials and corrosion expertise and advanced thickness data analysis technology.

20 years of providing engineering solutions recognized; launch of SIMFLEX-IV; opened the Hyderabad, India office.

2022
2023

Established the Gulf Coast Office in Katy, TX.

Launched new Equity brand and established subsidiaries.
